What it involves

Insight, then practice.

Individual counseling at SoundHeart starts by understanding your history and the predictions you carry about people. Where did you learn to brace, to over-function, or to keep your distance? What did those responses protect?

Understanding is the first half. The second half is practice. Together we choose small, real situations where you can respond differently, then review what happened. Over time, those repetitions build new expectations about connection.

Through the NeuroRelational lens. We work across all three gaps, especially the Story Gap. Who you decided your history made you, and who you are practicing becoming.

How it works

From first contact to ongoing work.

  1. Consultation

A short conversation to understand what you need and confirm counseling is the right fit.

  2. Intake session

We cover your history, current concerns, and goals, and review consent and privacy.

  3. Regular sessions

Usually weekly or every other week at first, adjusted as you progress.

  4. Practice and review

Specific practices between sessions and regular check-ins on your goals.

Fit and safety

When this is not the right first step

  • You need emergency or crisis care right now
  • You need a level of care beyond outpatient counseling, such as hospitalization or detox

In a crisis, call or text 988 in the U.S. or dial 911.

Questions

Common questions

Do I need a diagnosis to start?

No. Many people come for relationship patterns or life transitions. Your clinician will talk with you about how assessment works during your intake.

Can individual counseling help my relationship?

Often, yes. When one person changes their part of a pattern, the pattern has to change too. If both partners later want to work together, we can talk about couples counseling.

Next step

Not sure this is the right fit? Ask us.

A short consultation is the easiest way to find out. We will tell you plainly if another option would serve you better.
